Linda Witt Honored by La Renaissance Française
Linda Witt, Federation VP and board officer of AF Seattle, was awarded by La Renaissance Française la médaille d’or de rayonnement culturel, a medal recognizing exemplary contributions which champion cultural influences and international standing of the French language and francophone traditions.
The award ceremony on April 16 was presided by Consul General Cédrik Fouriscot and Margot Steinhart, the American delegation president, at the French Consulate in New York. Linda was honored for a career dedicated to advancing French language and culture across education, business, and the non-profit sector. Her work includes managing fund-raising initiatives, organizing cultural events celebrating French wine, food, and music, and successfully advocating for Portland’s first public French immersion charter school.
Several AF Federation and AATF leaders, including Matt Wyatt, Eileen Walvoord, and Margot Steinhart, were involved in organizing the ceremony and reception, which drew attendees from across the U.S.
Founded in 1916, La Renaissance Française benefits from the patronage of the French president and the French Ministries of Foreign Affairs, of the Interior, of Defense, and of Education and is authorized to confer honors and decorations. Outside France, the association’s delegations strive to bring cultures together—connecting these traditions with its host country and promoting dialogue and mutual understanding. In addition to honoring individuals for their outstanding service, La Renaissance Française, USA, awards small grants and works to expand partnerships with French-related organizations to strengthen visibility and engagement.
