Eligibility
Criteria and Expectations: Board of Directors 2026
In accepting nominees for the Federation Board, the eligibility criteria are the following:
- Each prospective board member must be a member in good standing of an Alliance Française chapter that has paid in full its annual dues to the Federation.
- Each prospective board member must have demonstrated leadership skills over a proven period at his or her Alliance chapter, and be in good standing with key partners, such as the Fondation, and French governmental agencies and representatives.
- Board members are required to attend the annual meeting; they are also encouraged to attend the mid-year meeting as well as other periodic meetings held by Zoom.
- Board members must request in advance to be excused from meetings. This request must be made in writing to the National Program Manager.
- Board members are expected to make an annual donation to the Federation; the minimum expected donation level is $500, although we would greatly appreciate donations in the range of $750 to $1,000. Board members are also welcome to seek a comparable monetary donation from another source, corporate or individual.
- Each board member serves on one or more standing or ad-hoc committees of the Federation Board.
- Each board member must be willing to share his or her expertise with fellow members and the National Programs Administrator.
- Each board member is expected to serve as an ambassador of the Federation in his or her community.
The following lists the areas of expertise currently sitting on the board:
- Investment and Finance
- Long-range strategic planning
- Special Event-Planning
- Cultural Events
- Fundraising/Development
- AATF collaboration
- Technology
- Communication
Although not limited to these qualities, we currently seek candidates with the following expertise and/or experience:
- Legal expertise
- One Book One Federation
- Human Resources
- Non-profit governance
- La Francophonie
