Toujours Populaires: les Ciné-Clubs
One of the most popular activities of our small Alliance chapters is a club or festival promoting French cinema. These come in many different styles and names, but all address and discuss French films.
Here are a few examples:
- AF Piedmont in South Carolina sponsors a Movie Night. The upcoming film in March will be Petit Pays, a film by Eric Barbier based on the acclaimed novel by Gaël Faye.
- AF Charleston, also in South Carolina, will be offering L’école buissonière (School of Life) directed by Nicolas Vanier.
- AF Détroit will be presenting a classic tale in February: Astérix et Obélix : Mission Cléopâtre directed by Alain Cabat.
- AF Kansas City will be presenting its first French Film Festival in April involving an opening ceremony, several film screenings, and a special screening at the National World War I Museum.
- AF Santa Rosa, in California, will present its Cinéma Matinée with Les Herbes Folles (Wild Grass) by Alain Resnais.
- AF Greenwich, perhaps more of a middle-sized chapter, will be presenting its highly successful annual film festival, Focus on French Cinema. This will include five in-person and five online screenings as well as interviews and events continuing its two-decade tradition.
There are many other examples, the ciné-club being one of our most popular activities. If your chapter has one, enjoy!
