Small Chapters Round Table at the 2024 Annual Meeting and Convention

This workshop was presented by Silvia Bettega (AF Hartford), Charles Coulon (AF North Shore) and Larry Hall (AF New Haven) and moderated by Upi Struzak (AF Silicon Valley).

The Alliance Française network in the U.S. includes many small chapters, which have been in existence for decades and others just recently formed. Some do not have teaching programs and others have recently opened classes for the first time.

These small or emerging chapters have specific challenges in common. Virtually all undertake or participate in cultural and linguistic activities (book clubs, conversation groups, etc.) and all face administrative issues common to all small nonprofits.

At this workshop, about 40 attendees discussed the activities and opportunities open to these chapters. The round table format permitted extensive discussion among those present. In addition, specific tools were discussed which address the issues facing small chapters.
