Small chapter members visit the Périgord
Members of the New Haven and Hartford Alliance Française chapters had a wonderful adventure in the Périgord in France prior to their Immersion Program visit to Bordeaux (see lead article). This region is famous for its gastronomy and natural beauty as well as being the home of Bruno, the municipal policeman featured in the novels of Martin Walker.
Their visit included a boat ride on the lovely Dordogne River, a visit to Grotte de Font-de-Gaume famous for ancient cave drawings, delicious meals including those in La Rocque-Gageac and Saint Eyzies as well as a visit to the lively local market in Le Bugue.
Thanks to Federation board member, Josette Marsh, a tour and luncheon were arranged with Martin Walker, a former Prix Charbonnier winner. A journalist with the Guardian newspaper and a prolific author, Walker showed them many fascinating local historical sites, the best local wine shop as well as serving a delicious luncheon at his home near Le Bugue.
It was a great start to our immersion experience in the Bordeaux region!
