Description and Purpose of the Grant

Youth Initiatives Grants are awarded to member chapters for any cultural, educational, or social development initiative for children between zero and 16 years of age. The purpose of the grant is to provide support for future programs and activities. Such initiatives could include:

• Purchase of a collection of books, magazines, tablet applications for children, games and toys
• Creation of workshops and cultural programs for children
• Family programs initiatives
• Development of classes for children
• Summer camp initiatives
• Partnership initiatives with other local cultural/educational venues
• Purchase of a collection of books or tablet applications for children
• Web development for marketing children’s programs

The Grants Committee will look favorably upon proposals in which member chapters match or contribute to the project budget.

Existing efforts or ongoing operational expenses (such as teacher salaries or rent) are not eligible for funding with this grant.

Description and Purpose of the Grant

The Cultural Programs Grants are awarded to member chapters for the development of a cultural initiative or specific program.

The purpose of the grant is to support future programs and activities that are in keeping with the mission of the Federation of Alliance Française to promote French language and Francophone culture with the goal of “improving cross-cultural understanding and strengthening intercultural communications.”

• The type of activities and programs can range from lectures, musical or theatrical performances, presentations by authors or lecturers, fashion shows, Bastille Day events, or cooking demonstrations.
• Funding can be applied for a first-time event for your chapter, or for further development of a proven successful program.
• The Grants Committee will look favorably upon proposals in which member chapters match or contribute to the project budget.
• The grant is for investment and development initiatives, not for operations, such as salaries or supplies. It can, however, be used to pay economy class travel, hotel, and honoraria (including stipends) for guest artist/s or lecturer/s. It cannot be used to pay for staff or member travel for their professional development purposes.

Description and Purpose of the Grant

The Educational Initiatives Grant is awarded to member chapters for any development initiative to set up a teaching program, broaden existing class offerings, or create a specific one-time class or workshop. Such initiatives could include:

• Development of classes for adults or children
• Creation of one or more workshops or seminars
• Partnership initiatives with other local cultural/educational organizations
• Purchase of books, digital programs/services, magazine, or online subscriptions – all specifically for classroom use/applications.
• Registration fees for workshops or conferences for teacher development
• Annual membership in professional education organizations (e.g., the American Association of Teachers of French)
• Purchase of classroom and teacher materials
• Events or advertising to market French classes to the public
• Fees related to local, regional, national, or international French contests for students

The Grants Committee will look favorably upon proposals in which member chapters match or contribute to the project budget.

Description and Purpose of the Grant

This grant is for the development of the infrastructure and facilities of Alliance chapters. It can be applied to capital expenditures to:

• support the design, purchase, construction, restoration or renovation of facilities, such as: building, creation of new physical spaces
• major furniture purchase and maintenance expenditure, such as: shelving for the library, new desks and chairs, painting, equipment
• broad-purpose digital infrastructure, such as: new website, purchase or replacement of old computers, tablets, smart boards, projectors, purchase of a new management software and new platform

The applying chapter will demonstrate how these expenditures will bring long-term benefits to the institution and to the mission of the Federation of Alliances Françaises USA more broadly. For large projects, applications should also include progress timeline (explaining expenditures over time).

The Grants Committee will look favorably upon proposals in which member chapters match or contribute to the project budget.

*Note: All grants may be supplemented with a portion of additional funding ($10,000) provided by the National Coordinator’s office; exact allocations are determined during Grants Committee deliberations.

Description and Purpose of the Grant

The Morse Visibility Grant, made possible by the A. Reynolds and Eleanor Morse Fund, is awarded to member chapters for promotional and/or marketing initiatives within their community. The creators of the award stipulated that the funds be “made available for grants to member chapters of the Federation for use in projects to promote the awareness and image of the Federation and its Alliance Française chapters.” Examples include, but are not limited to:

• Signage for building facades**
• Setup of, or improvement of, a website
• Assistance in acquiring building space
• Marketing programs (digital, promotional material, radio commercials, bus ads, online advertising, etc.)

Grants are intended for investment and development initiatives, not for ongoing marketing operations, such as the printing of regular class brochures and cultural calendars.

Renovations of existing buildings and grounds to improve visibility would not qualify under the Morse Grant but can qualify for an Infrastructure Grant.

Description and Purpose of the Grant

The Carrillo Hispanophone Initiative Grants to motivate and help Spanish speakers in the US learn French. This grant will support one or more Federation member chapters in their efforts to promote this objective among children or adults within their communities.

NB: AF member chapters may choose to apply for this grant in addition to one other grant proposal submitted on March 1, 2026, round of applications.

As with all Federation grants, applications must include an itemized budget and a detailed description of the proposed project. This grant is open to any Federation member chapter and the grant will be shared among all the winning chapters. (See Grant Eligibility Rules for details.) A report will be due to the Federation shortly after the activity is completed, but no later than April 15, 2027.

Grant funding can be requested for first-time events or to further develop proven successful programs. In addition, chapters can partner with other AF chapters or organizations, such as the AATF, to attract Spanish-speaking students and members in their area.

The Grants Committee encourages applications that present interactive programs. Examples of activities that might qualify for the Carrillo Hispanophone Initiative Grant include

• On-site programs with a specific Hispanic community, for example, an open-air movie screening presented in a park or a space accessible to the community.
• Cooking classes
• Events or short courses exploring French and Spanish languages through song and dance
• Meals pairing dishes from both French and Latin cuisines
• Puppet shows or story-telling events sharing cultural similarities and differences
• Holidays celebrations specific to French and Spanish-speaking cultures, including church events within Hispanophone communities.
