The Paul B. and Odette Wurzburger Special Achievement Award



A Special Achievement Award to Acknowledge, Recognize and Broadcast a Significant Achievement by an Individual Member Chapter in a Distinguished Cultural or Teaching Program.
$5,000 per year

Purpose

The Federation of Alliances Francaises U.S.A., Inc., ("Federation") is pleased to present this important initiative made possible by a generous bequest to the Federation from the Paul B. and Odette Wurzburger estate.

The Paul B. and Odette Wurzburger Special Achievement Award was created in 2007 specifically to acknowledge, recognize and broadcast a significant achievement by an individual Member Chapter in a distinguished cultural or teaching program, ("the Program"). Grant monies will be awarded to a Federation Member Chapter which has demonstrated its dedication to the furtherance of the goals and mission of the Federation, namely the promotion of the language and culture of French speaking peoples and a wider awareness of the programs and grant initiatives offered to the network of Member Chapters.

First Wurzburger Award made to AF de Providence (RI) - 2008 Award

A check for $5,000 and a commemorative certificate were presented to President Dominque Gregoire (right) and to Magali Boutiot of the AF de Providence (RI) by Federation Treasurer David Thoms at the Annual Convention. The award is for support of this chapter’s French Chorale development membership promotion and visibility.

The Award

The "Special Achievement Award" shall consist of the following:

  • A Federation check in the amount of $5,000

  • A certificate with the name of the Member Chapter inscribed and the year the Special Achievement Award was presented.

  • The inscription of the Member Chapter's name on a roll of honor which shall be retained by the Chairman of the Grants Committee and will be displayed at appropriate Federation and Member Chapter functions throughout the year as well as on the Federation website and in Federation or the recipient Member Chapter's promotional materials.

  • Eligibility CriteriaTo be considered for the Special Achievement Award, the Applicant Member Chapter ("Applicant") shall demonstrate:

  • The Applicant is a member in good standing of the Federation at the time the Application is received

  • The Program has been substantive and of direct benefit to the Applicant, the community or the Federation as a whole.

  • The Program has the further potential of becoming a prototype program for other Member Chapters.

  • The Program must be innovative and conceived and executed beyond the scope of the Member Chapter's customary programs and activities.

  • The achievement will be assessed according to :

  • Quality of the Program

  • Value as a model program to a maximum of Member Chapters of the Federation. A prototype of the Program must be provided with the Application, for use by other Member Chapters of the Federation if the Applicant is chosen for the Special Achievement Award. The Applicant shall consent on the Application form to such use. Prototype information will be returned to Applicants not selected for the award

  • Sustainability of the Program

  • Innovation

  • Financial Cost

  • Potential for increased membership

  • Value to the Federation, as a wider audience is made aware of its actions, programs and grant initiatives.

  • Restrictions

    Selection of the Special Achievement Award recipient is solely at the discretion of the Grants Committee. The Special Achievement Award will be considered, and funding will be available, on an annual basis. However, no award will be made in any year where the Grants Committee decides there is no Application which sufficiently satisfies the eligibility criteria.

    The Federation's Grants Committee is comprised of Board Members of the Federation. Member Chapters which have a member serving on the Federation's Grants Committee shall not be eligible for consideration during that committee member's term of office unless that committee member resigns from the Grants Committee before deliberations by the Committee on the Special Achievement Award begin.
    Please note that each chapter is eligible to receive one award each calendar year and cannot receive the same award two years in succession. Should a chapter receive any award two years in succession, it must wait one year before applying again.
