The Alliance Française is a non-profit organization
whose mission is to promote French language and culture outside
France. Its primary concern is teaching French as a second language.
It is headquartered in Paris.
The Alliance was created in Paris on July 21, 1883
by a group of eminent men, including the scientist Louis Pasteur,
the diplomat Ferdinand de Lesseps, the writers Jules Verne and Ernest
Renan, and the publisher Armand Colin.
More than 420,000 students learn French at one of
centres run by the Alliance, whose network of schools includes:
- centre in Paris
- locations throughout France, which receive foreign
students
- over 1074 locations in 136 different countries
The local organisations outside Paris are locally,
independently run "franchises". Each has a local committee
and a president.
For the past one hundred years the Federation of
Alliances Françaises USA has had as its mission to provide
support for its individual member chapters in their efforts to promote
French language and francophone culture. Today as yesterday, the
primary focus of the AFs is on the improvement of cross-cultural
understanding and the strengthening of intercultural communication.
The Tulsa Chapter
The Alliance Française of Tulsa was founded
in 1955. As of 2000, we have 100 plus members. We publish a monthly
bulletin "Le Kiosque", which contains information about
our programs. We also offer French conversation classes.
If you have a love for the French culture and language,
then this is the place for you!
