POLICIES

GENERAL INFORMATION AND SCHOOL REGULATIONS
To insure the highest efficiency, lowest fees and optimum class composition, the following regulations have been established:

REGISTRATION AND PLACEMENT
See insert for walk-in registration dates and course schedule. Placement interviews conducted during registration are free of charge.

FEES
Tuition is payable in full at registration. There is a one time registration fee of $ 25.00 payable at the initial registration, within the current academic year, which is from July 1 to June 30.
Study materials are available for purchase at the office.

PAYMENTS AND REFUNDS
All tuition is due at registration and before the first class, either by cash, by check or by credit card (Visa or Mastercard or Discover).
Company paid tuition is accepted but the student must bring all paperwork at time of registration.
Due to non-profit status, limited class sizes, and obligations to instructors and other class members, no refunds can be made after the first class. This policy is essential in order to guarantee high quality of instruction.

CREDIT
In cases of withdrawal for cause of hardship beyond the student’s control, a credit may be granted toward future instruction UPON WRITTEN REQUEST. Credit memos must be turned in at registration. Please note, the French Institute reserves the right to cancel classes with insufficient enrollment, for which credit and/or refunds shall be issued.

CERTIFICATES AND DIPLOMAS
Upon course completion, certificates may be issued upon request.
The F.I.M. administers Alliance Française examinations recognized by most American institutions of Higher learning. DELF, DALF and DAEFLE examinations may also be given.

MAIL REGISTRATION PROCEDURE
In an effort to streamline administrative work load and hold mounting cost, the following procedures are being implemented:

  • Continuing students
All students returning in a new academic year are urged to register by mail, registration to be received at the office as detailed below by means of the mail-registration form fully filled out and a check which will be held but not cashed until after the first scheduled class. Holders of credit memos need to turn in their copy at registration
  • New students
All students registering as complete beginners (i.e. NO previous study of French ever) may register by mail.
Students new to the French Institute of Michigan with any previous study or knowledge of French must contact the Institute to make arrangements for language evaluation and class placement, free of charge.

REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT POLICY
During the published dates, registration will be conducted at the office. Any special cases must be handled in person, and appointments made as needed.
Mail registration, intended for continuing students, qualifies for a discount of $ 10.00, if postmarked before the first day of registration. Walk in registrations or mail registrations not sent in before registration starts do not qualify for a discount.
Please not that it is the individual student’s responsibility to verify the final scheduling of his/her class by calling the Institute.
