The Alliance Française de Gainesville is pleased to welcome you to its website, created to bring to its members and to all
others interested in the French language and culture in the Gainesville area news of its events and activities. It is under the umbrella of the Center for Humanities at the University of Florida.
Gainesville is home to the University of Florida, one of the nation's 5 largest universities and the state's oldest (founded in 1906), largest (46,000 students) and most comprehensive university.
It is nationally recognized in medical research and services. Needless to say that it is the center of the Gator Nation and home of the Florida Gators,
2006 NCAA Champions in Men's Basketball and Football as well as Women's Tennis (Winner of the 2006 SEC Women's Tournament). UF is the only school in NCAA division 1-A history to hold the football and men's basketball national titles simultaneously.
